Born in Africa of a German father, Dutch mother
and married to a French man, Saskia by her very nature and by
choice, cultivates contrast and diversity. With a background in
textile design, it was due to sheer frustration that she became
immersed in her flamboyant style of painting. She had come to
realise that there was more freedom in painting a tulip overflowing
from a canvas, than in designing a stamp for printed apparel.
Since her Parisian exhibition in December 97, Saskia has spent
most of her time finely crafting her two most intimate creations,
which are her daughters Kyria and Prisca.
However, Saskia is now back at the easel. Her inspiration, nurtured
in Cape Town and Durban is expressed with acrylic paint on canvas.
The rough textures and exulting palette, sometimes enhanced with
gold and silver-leaf are fed from her European roots to be baked
in the African sun and always display such contrasts!
The result was displayed at the London and Paris exhibition in
December 2003.
What are Saskia's pretensions? Increase the influx of joy, in
the intimacy of your home, and brighten up your inner place!
